Because Martin Luther King's dream
is worth remembering and continuing to
implement, our schools and offices were
closed an Jan. 17, Martin Luther King Jr.
Day.
As
we
celebrate
his
contribution
to
our country
on
this national holiday,
this week
wo
encourage you to reflect on
and discuss
as
a
Family
the
man
and
what he stood for.
As
a
member
of
a
close-knit family.
which spent time together,
he
was
taught to treat alt people with respect.
He was a good student. In fact. Martin
Luther King Jr. was able to start college
when he was 15.
He was
a
man
of
compassion who
believed change could
be
achieved
by
nonviolent moans.
As a
student
in
ministerial school. Dr. King read exten-
sively about Mohandas Gandhi
and
began to think about ways he could use
the Indian leader's nonviolent methods
to bring about change.
His work won tho Nobel Peace Prize
and created enemies.
His
house
was
bombed, his family threatened and his
life taken by an assnssin.
Yet
his
